
Tigers Close out ValleyCats, 8-2

NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (22-19) locked up a series-win over the Tri-City ValleyCats, affiliate of Houston Astros, winning the rubber game tonight, 8-2. The series win makes the Tigers six-for-six pertaining to home series wins this season.
Joey Havrilak's first inning at bat, set the tone for the Tigers tonight. Down in the count to right-hander Edgardo Sandoval with no one on and two outs, Havrilak worked a walk and quickly advanced to second on a wild pitch. Blaise Salter and Daniel Pinero both capitalized on the opportunity with RBI singles to make it 2-0 Tigers after one.
Austin Sodders started the game for Connecticut and pitched extremely well. Sodders pitched a career high four innings and also set a career-high with five strikeout. Sodders was able to locate the fastball and get swings and misses off his changeup tonight. His two key frames came in the first and second, With runners on second and third and one out in both innings, Sodders picked up strikeouts to get his second out and then got groundballs to get out of both innings.
Leading 4-2 in the sixth inning the Tigers got a lift from Cole Bauml who grounded a two-run single into left field. Joey Havrilak made it 7-2 Tigers with a sacrifice fly. Havrilak had a great day at the dish going 2-3 with a double, run batted-in and a walk.
Sam Machonis contributed with a three-hit game, falling a home run shy of the cycle. Machonis stroked a triple off the leftfield fence that almost carried out of the yard for his first home run of the season. Machonis ended the day 3-4, with a double, triple and two RBI's.
Joe Navilhon continued his hot streak out of the bullpen. Going an 1.1 of scoreless ball, in which he allowed one hit and struck out one. Navilhon has now not allowed an earned run in his last seven appearances, spanning 12 2/3 innings.
The Tigers head on the road tomorrow with a series upcoming against the Vermont Lake Monsters, affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The Tigers are 4-2 this season against Vermont. Including a series-win in Burlington back on June 19-21.
