Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, WA - Cal State Fullerton pitcher Gavin Velasquez was named West Coast League Pitcher of the Week for his efforts from July 4-10, as announced by West Coast League President Donnie Marbut on Tuesday.

Velasquez dazzled in a complete-game shutout over the Corvallis Knights on July 8, striking out four while limiting the First Half Champions to just four hits. The Covina, California native has now thrown complete game efforts in each of his last two outings, improving his record to 4-2 with an overall 1.58 ERA in six starts for Yakima Valley.

Here is our SoundCloud interview with the rising sophomore after his complete game win over the Corvallis Knights, helping earn the series win this past weekend.

Velasquez joins his Cal State Fullerton teammate Chris Ceballos (June 6) as West Coast League Player of the Week selections this season.

The Yakima Valley Pippins (19-14, 4-2) return to action here on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Bellingham Bells for our $2 Tuesday tonight at Yakima County Stadium. Fans can listen to all the action live on 1460 ESPN Yakima, the official home for Pippins Baseball.
