Corvallis Knights News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Walla Walla capitalized on an error by Corvallis pitcher Chase Kaplan to defeat the Knights 3-0 on Tuesday in a West Coast League game at Borleske Stadium.

A one-out single and Kaplan's two-base throwing error on a pickoff attempt put a runner at third with one out in the last of the ninth. Two intentional walks loaded the bases; after a strikeout, Coby Kauhaahaa hit the ball over the left-field fence to end the game.

Kauhaahaa passed another runner, however, and was called out. He was credited with a ground-rule double, three runs counted, and the Sweets won. Corvallis manager Brooke Knight filed a protest after the game.

The Knights (26-12 all, 19-12 WCL, 1-3 second half) have lost 4 of their last 5 since clinching the first-half South Division title, and a playoff berth, on July 4.

Starter Cameron Bishop (UC Irvine), named to the South Division all-star team on Monday, allowed two hits and had seven strikeouts in five scoreless innings. He lowered his ERA to 0.41.

Reliever Aaron Pope of Dixie State added two scoreless innings.

Catcher Nick Kahle (Washington in 2017) had two infield singles to pace an offense that generated just three hits and did not get a runner to third base.

The series resumes at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Righty Grant Goodman (0-0, 2.54) of San Francisco is the scheduled starter for Corvallis, opposed by lefty Easton Lucas (5-1, 1.67) of Pepperdine. It concludes on Thursday.

The next home game for the Knights is a 6:40 p.m. Friday matchup against the Cowlitz Black Bears.
