Charleston RiverDogs News Release

Mike Veeck and his "FUN IS GOOD" attitude are being recognized once again.

The Charleston RiverDogs president has been named one of Charleston's 35 most visionary and passionate people of influence by Charleston Magazine.

In honor of the magazine's 35th year of publication, Charleston Magazine has compiled a list of 35 visionary, passionate and progressive people that have shaped the Holy City since the magazine's inception in1975.

"Charleston RiverDogs president Mike Veeck has hit a major league home run with his "Fun is Good" formula for the minor league team," reads an excerpt from the article.

Under Veeck's leadership and direction, the RiverDogs have gone to new heights, setting numerous attendance records in recent years. His "Fun is Good" mantra goes beyond the front office, as the team has gained national attention and exposure for their promotions, often the brainchild of the team's president himself.

Veeck's likeable and entertaining personality has transcended that of a run-of-the-mill club executive, having been featured on 60 Minutes and Nightline. His book, Fun is Good: How to Create Joy & Passion in Your Workplace & Career, has shown millions how to apply his simple approach to their everyday lives.

"Since stepping up to the plate in 1997, he's whipped a rag-tag ball club into family-friendly shape, made multiple pitches to the Guinness Book of World Record, and teamed up with the New York Yankees," says Charleston Magazine.

Not only is the magazine applauding the Chicago native's work around Riley Park, but his off the field endeavors as well. Veeck's work with charities and local non-profits, primarily his work with the Storm Eye Institute at nearby MUSC, has kept the RiverDogs' pawprint fresh in the community.

"He's also gone to bat for local charities, especially MUSC's Storm Eye Institute (on behalf of his daughter, diagnosed with retinitis Pigmentosa), with a roster of fundraising auction, tournaments, and events," reads the article.

In response to Veeck's daughter Rebecca being diagnosed with RP, the club has organized its annual "Kindness Beats Blindness" auction. The RiverDogs just wrapped up the 11th year of the event, which has raised more than $400,000 towards preventative research for the degenerative disease.

Joining Veeck on the list is Charleston mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr., for whom the RiverDogs' stadium is named after.

The RiverDogs begin a five-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, Wednesday, July 14 at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, call the RiverDogs' box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or visit www.riverdogs.com.
