
Suns Offense Cooled off by Heat Wave 7-2

The Hagerstown Suns (5-9, 41-43) battled a tough one Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium losing to the West Virginia Power (5-9, 36-48) 7-2.
The Suns started it off in the first inning with a single for Francisco Soriano. With Steven Souza bathing, Soriano stole second base. With Soriano on third after a fielding error by the Power, Justin Bloxom hit a sacrifice fly scoring Soriano.
West Virginia answered back in the second. With runners on second and third from being walked earlier, Benji Gonzalez hit a single driving in Jose Hernandez to tie the board 1-1.
The Power kept going in the third with a two run homer by Aaron Baker scoring David Rubinstein after reaching on a single.
Hagerstown tried to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Eury Perez tripled to right field putting him in perfect scoring position with Jeff Kobernus up to bat. Kobernus grounded out scoring Perez cutting the Power lead 3-2.
In the fourth inning, West Virginia scored another run. With B Gonzalez at first after being walked, Jarek Cunningham doubled increasing their lead 4-2.
The Suns could not get any momentum as the game went on. The Power however scored two more runs in the eighth after a home run by Evan Chambers.
The Power added one more tally in the ninth after a Suns pitching change making the score 7-2 which would be the final.
The Suns starting pitcher Josh Smoker (1-9) got the loss pitching four innings with five strikeouts giving up four runs. Shane Erb pitched the fifth and sixth walking three players. Luis Garcia came in during the seventh giving up two runs. Wanel Vasquez came in to close giving up one run.
West Virginias starting pitcher Phillip Irwin (4-1) got the win pitching seven innings with four strikeouts and only giving up two runs. Mike Williams came in for the eighth having one strikeout. Marc Baca came in for the end giving up zero runs.
The Suns hit the road for a five game series against the Greenville Drive. They will return home on July 14th at 7:05 p.m. for a five game homestand against the Rome Braves.
