Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Rob Vaughn drove in six runs in the bottom of the fifth to spark the Intimidators to a 10-3 victory over the Hickory Crawdads on Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Vaughn hit a three run home run to spot Kannapolis a 4-1 lead to get the fifth inning scoring going. He added a bases-loaded, three-RBI double later in the same inning to finish off a nine-run frame. The catcher was added to the roster earlier this week from Bristol and was making his first appearance of the season for the Intimidators.

Jon Gilmore also had a big offensive day, as the third baseman got his bat back on track. Gilmore finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and his first triple of the year.

Most of the damage was done against Hickory starter Joe Wieland (4-6), who gave up eight runs, four earned, in 4 2/3 innings. His life was made considerably more difficult in the fifth inning after an error on shortstop Leury Garcia. The miscue led to six unearned runs.

Dan Albritton (1-0) got his first win with Kannapolis, firing three strong innings of relief. The right-hander struck out seven and gave up only one hit in his time on the mound.

Starter Charlie Leesman went just two innings, giving up an unearned run. Prior to Saturday's game it was announced that Leesman would start Game 1 of the Intimidators playoff series with Lakewood on Wednesday.

The Kannapolis pitching staff combined to fan 16 Hickory hitters. Santo Rodriguez struck out four, while Kyle Bellamy recorded three K's in his only inning of work.
