
Intimidators race to win against Crawdads

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 10-3, on Saturday evening in the second game of the four-game set.
The Crawdads (29-39, 62-75) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when RF Eric Fry scored on throwing error charged to Kannapolis 3B Jon Gilmore. The Intimidators tied it up, 1-1, with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Gilmore against RHP Joe Wieland.
Kannapolis (44-23, 81-56) then blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating nine runs (four unearned) against Wieland (4-6) and RHP Fabio Castillo. C Rob Vaughn drove in six RBIs with a three-run homer and a three-run double in the inning, and the Intimidators moved ahead 10-1 after the big frame.
The Crawdads drew closer in the top of the eighth, plating two tallies against LHP Enrique Lechuga. 3B Matt West drove a bases-loaded single through the middle of the infield, scoring SS Andres James and DH Vinny DiFazio and making it 10-3. West has at least one RBI in each of his last three games.
RHP Corey Ragsdale posted a second straight scoreless inning in the top of the ninth, but RHP Kyle Bellamy struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth, closing the 10-3 win for Kannapolis. Wieland was tagged with the loss for Hickory, while RHP Dan Albritton (1-0) recorded the win for Kannapolis.
