Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD - A nine-run seventh inning turned a Lakewood BlueClaws lead into a blowout loss on Saturday night as they lose 13-7 against the Delmarva Shorebirds.

The Shorebirds (30-35) put eight runs across the board before the BlueClaws (34-32) could record an out in the seventh after they had led both 3-0 and 5-4. Against Ryan Bergh, the righty allowed six hits, eight runs, seven earned in the inning before being lifted with no one out in favor of Santo Hernandez who allowed the remaining run. The run output is the highest in a single inning this season for any opponent of the BlueClaws.

Austin Hyatt (0-1) started for the BlueClaws and in his debut looked very good through four innings before being touched up a bit in a four-run fifth. He went the first four scoreless and overall, struck out eight but allowed those four runs in 2/3 of an inning in the fifth.

For the BlueClaws, they scored single runs in the second, third and fifth, they also put up two runs in the sixth for a respectable five-run night. Notables for the BlueClaws were doubles by both D'Arby Myers and Vladimir De Los Santos and an RBI-single for Troy Hanzawa. Myers also tripled in a run in the ninth.

Carl Salberg started for the Shorebirds as he went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs, two earned. He did not pick up the win; Jacob Smith (1-0) did, as he came on as the first man in relief.

BlueClaws outfielder Brian Gump was called upon to pitch the bottom of the eighth in an eight-run game and he worked three straight pop-outs.

The win clinches a season series win for the Shorebirds against the BlueClaws as they lead 12-9 in 21 games.

The two teams will continue the five-game series on Sunday at 6:05 pm as Trevor May (3-1) will get his final work of the season. He will be opposed by lefty Cole McCurry (6-8).
