Vasquez Gives Jackets Lead for Good

North Augusta, SC - After an incredible individual performance from Joey Estes on the mound, the Jackets needed a late hit to secure a Wednesday night win. Braulio Vasquez drove in two runs with a two-out eighth inning single, and the Jackets held on to beat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs) by a final of 3-1.
Estes twirled 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball and finished with 11 strikeouts. Both are career highs for the young right-hander.
The Augusta offense was stymied by Manuel Espinoza. He went five innings of scoreless baseball and struck out ten. It wasn't until a Landon Stephens double that the GreenJackets got on the board in the sixth. Vaughn Grissom scored, and it was 1-0.
Myrtle Beach tied things up in the 8th when Yohendrick Pinango hit into a double play, but scored Ezequiel Pagan from third base. Vasquez then came up in the 8th with the bases loaded and two outs. His single scored Stephens and Javier Valdes.
In the ninth inning, Lisandro Santos earned his second win of the year by retiring the side.

* Joey Estes now has an ERA of 1.01 this year after six starts. * Vaughn Grissom finished 2-for-4 and is now hitting .276 this year. * Braulio Vasquez stole two bases. He now has 23 to lead the Low-A East League.
