Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Leading into the start of their fourth season in Major League Soccer, Vancouver Whitecaps FC revealed the club's newest kit at an exclusive season ticket holder event Wednesday at the Commodore Ballroom in downtown Vancouver.
The new kit will be worn for the first time this coming Saturday, March 8, as the "ËCaps open their 2014 season at BC Place to defending Supporters Shield win ners New York Red Bulls.
"As we enter our 40th anniversary, we're very excited to launch our fifth kit since joining MLS," said Whitecaps FC chief operating officer Rachel Lewis. "This club has a storied history and that great tradition is honoured in several features on this new jersey. Players and fans will be able to wear this jersey with pride."
Bell, the club's Premier Founding Partner, will continue to feature on the front of the kit as they enter their fourth season as the official jersey partner of Whitecaps FC.
Fans are able to purchase the new jersey and ancillary pieces online at whitecapsfcshop.com, at retailers who carry Whitecaps FC merchandise including most SportChek locations, and at Whitecaps FC home matches at BC Place.
Building off of the club's original MLS secondary kit, we see the return of the familiar deep sea blue, an ode to the water that surrounds and makes up the landscape of Vancouver. Down the left side on the front of the jersey are embossed Whitecaps FC logos forming a curve, representing the flowing structure of a wave.
Silver is featured more prominently on the new kit, in honour of the silverware won by Whitecaps FC and the winning tradition of the club since the inaugural season in 1974. Among those titles are the famous 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl, one North American Championship, four Canadian Soccer League championships, two W-League titles, two United Soccer Leagues First Division titles, and four Cascadia Cups.
Fans can learn more about the club's history at whitecapsfc.com/since1974 . Included in silver are all logos on the jersey with the exception of the Canadian flag, which is kept true to the Red and White to show the pride the club has to represent the Great White North.
On the back of the jersey is the club's 40th anniversary mark, a nod to the "ËCaps history. Inside the neckline are the words "Our all. Our honour." - the club's mantra. This is placed on the inside of the neckline to represent the unity between all who wear the "ËCaps kit and the constant quest to win.
Using the same adizero technology as the kits at this summer's 2014 FIFA World Cup, the new jersey weighs just 100 grams and features a woven lightweight fabric that is 40 per cent lighter than previous kits - the lightest ever produced by adidas. This kit also provides additional ventilation and is designed to feel like a second skin, providing maximum freedom of movement.
Jerseys range in price from $79.99 for youth jerseys and $134.99 for authentic long sleeve jerseys. Season ticket holders receive 15% off on merchandise at BC Place.
Whitecaps FC begin their 2014 MLS season this coming Saturday, March 8 versus New York Red Bulls at BC Place. Season tickets start at just $349 and single-match tickets start at $22, subject to applicable fees. The 'Caps also offer a flexible range of ticket products, including half-season tickets ($244), 5-packs ($149), student season tickets ($199), and a youth soccer half-season ticket ($100).
