Everett AquaSox News Release
HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Vancouver Canadians (33-38) overcame a three-run eighth-inning deficit to defeat the Everett AquaSox (46-23) 7-6 in 10 innings. The loss ended the AquaSox six-game overall winning streak and nine-game road winning streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The AquaSox opened the scoring when Jack Larsen hit a first inning RBI double, driving in Patrick Frick. The Canadians evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Sebastian Espino hit a solo home run. The AquaSox reclaimed the lead in the second inning when Victor Labrada singled to right field, scoring Dariel Gomez to give the 'Sox a 2-1 advantage. Joseph Rosa came in to score one batter later when Canadians third baseman Ronny Brito was charged with a fielding error on a Frick line drive and the 'Sox led 3-1 after three innings. Neither team would score again until the top of the eight inning when Kaden Polcovich hit a sacrifice fly to right field that drove in Larsen, giving the AquaSox their largest lead of the game at 4-1.
The Canadians came storming back in the bottom of the eighth inning with four runs as Philip Clarke, Brito, Eric Rivera and Juan De Los Santos each contributed an RBI and Vancouver took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning. The AquaSox were down to their final out in the ninth inning when Frick tied the game with an RBI double that scored Rosa. The Canadians weren't able to score in the bottom of the ninth and the game went into extra innings, tied up at 5-5.
The 'Sox grabbed the lead back again in the 10th inning when Tyler Keenan hit a ground rule double that scored Larsen. The Canadians loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game when Will Robertson was hit by a pitch, forcing in Clarke from third base. Espino would then get credited with the walk-off walk to bring in Brito for the game winning run.
WRAPPING IT UP
AquaSox starting pitcher Fred Villarreal had his longest outing of the season, pitching four innings and allowing only three hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts. Igor Januario pitched 2.1 innings of hitless baseball and struck out four batters. Labrada extended his hitting streak to 14 games (four with Everett and 10 with Modesto).
