Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants ran their winning streak to 5 games defeating the Kamloops Blazers 3-1 Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum in front of 10,378 fans. Spencer Bennett scored 2 more goals, including the game winner, to give him 12 goals in 13 game since joining the Giants on December 30, 2010.
Looking for another quick start, the Giants got it courtesy of Brendan Gallagher as he snapped home his 33rd of the season on a pretty toe drag to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead. The Giants controlled the majority of the play, but Kamloops would get an equalizer before the period was out to even it at 1-1 through 20 minutes.
Vancouver continued to press in the second period and eventually were rewarded as Spencer Bennett banged in a loose puck in the crease to pick up his 23rd goal of the year. The Giants led 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Bennett would add an insurance marker in the third period on the power play beating Jeff Bosch on the wrap around for his 2nd of the night. He finished with 3 points and first star honours. Mark Segal needed to make just 16 saves for his 9th straight victory. 3-1 was the final.
The Giants begin the first of 6 straight games on the road tomorrow night in Kelowna. It will be a battle for first place in the B.C. division as the Rockets sit just one point behind Vancouver for first place. Both teams come into the game on 5 game winning streaks. Game time is 7:05pm. The pregame show begins at 6:35pm on AM 650.
