New York Boulders News Release

Juan Silverio's opposite field single to right-center drove in the winning run and gave the Tri-City Valley Cats a 6-5 win over the New York Boulders and a sweep of their twinbill at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy on Wednesday night.

Silverio's two-out hit in the bottom of the seventh inning knocked in Willy Garcia, who had walked with one out against Boulders' closer Tanner Kiest and then advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.

Earlier in the evening, Tri-City held off a late New York rally and posted an 8-7 win in game one.

In the nightcap, Tri-City had moved out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. The Valley Cats scored once in the first stanza on a sacrifice fly by Garcia; then added three more in the third frame on a two-run single off the bat of Garcia and a sacrifice fly by Nelson Molina.

New York, though, responded with four in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 4-4. Ray Hernandez' two-run single cut their deficit in half before an RBI double by Gian Martellini made it a 4-3 game. Tucker Nathans later scored on a passed ball to level the scoreboard at 4-4.

Denis Phipps' two-out fourth inning single scored Oscar Campos, who had reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch by New York starter Andy Hammond and broke a 4-4 tie, putting the Valley Cats up by a run.

New York battled back again, however, to tie the game at 5-5, scoring once in the top of the seventh against Francisco Jiminez, the fourth Tri-City pitcher in the nightcap. Jack Sundberg led off with a single before Milton Smith, Jr. walked. After Zach Kirtley struck out, Kevonte Mitchell legged out an infield hit down the third base line to load the bases. Ryan Ramiz' sacrifice fly then knotted the game.

Jiminez escaped further damage by striking out Hernandez to end the inning.

Jiminez got the win for Tri-City and improved to 3-2 on the year, while Kiest fell to 3-6 on the season with the loss.

In the first game, the Valley Cats held off a late rally by the Boulders and hung on for an 8-7 win.

Tri-City's Zach Biermann went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, while teammate Oscar Campos hit a fourth inning three-run home run, his second of the year.

Biermann had a run-scoring triple in the second inning, then scored on a Chris Kwitzer single as the Valley Cats moved out to a 2-0 lead. It became 5-0 with Campos' home run in the fourth.

The Boulders cut their deficit to one at 5-4 in the sixth, the scoring coming on an RBI single by Ryan Ramiz, an RBI double from Tucker Nathans and a sacrifice fly by Ray Hernandez. A wild pitch also allowed Ramiz to score. The rally knocked Tri-City starter Turner Larkins from the game and brought on Trey Cochran-Gill.

Dylan Smith came on to relieve Orsen Josephina to start the sixth for the Boulders and he surrendered a two-run double to Biermann, as well as a run-scoring single to Kwitzer that increased the Valley Cats' lead to 8-4.

They would need all of those runs as Mitchell took Cochran-Gill deep in the seventh for a three-run shot, his seventh of the season, to get New York within a run at 8-7. However, Cochran-Gill responded by striking out Ramiz and Nathans to close out his 15th save of the season.

Larkins picked up the win, improving to 2-2 on the year, while Josephina was tagged with the loss, falling to 3-2 on the season.

The four-game series wraps up on Thursday with an 11 a.m. start.
