TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats announced Monday that they have agreed to terms with LHP Ryan Hartman. Hartman, released by the Baltimore Orioles organization on August 6, joins the ValleyCats after making his MLB debut with the Houston Astros. The southpaw was drafted 277th overall by the Astros in the 9th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Hartman started his first and only game in Houston on June 30, 2021, surrendering 1 run on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched against the Baltimore Orioles.
On July 30th, 2021, exactly one month after his MLB debut, Hartman was claimed off of waivers by the Baltimore Orioles. In 7 games (4 starts) across 4 teams with the highest being AAA Norfolk, the 28-year old left-hander is 1-1 with a 4.03 ERA, 28 H, 10 ER, 5 BB, and 16 SO over 22.1 IP.
Hartman returns to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium for the first time in the team's independent era. Hartman was first a member of the ValleyCats in 2016, where he made his professional debut as a member of the Houston Astros organization. In 14 games (6 starts) for the 'Cats in 2016, Hartman went 2-0 with a 2.36 ERA, 7 BB, and 48 strikeouts over 45.2 IP.
Hartman joins a ValleyCats team in the midst of a battle for a Frontier League playoff spot in the East Division. Entering the week, Tri-City had claimed sole possession of third place by half of a game over the Sussex County Miners as regular season play enters the home stretch. The ValleyCats continue the playoff push at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium this Wednesday, with a single-admission doubleheader against the Ottawa Titans, featuring a Kiké Hernández bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, courtesy of Sunkist.
