Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats (9-10) capitalized on the New England Knockouts' (5-14) command issues to complete a seven-run comeback, and earned a 9-8 victory on Friday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
New England jumped to 4-0 lead in the first as Jose Felix hit two batters, and walked two. Felix stranded two runners by striking out JR DiSarcina after issuing back-to-back RBI singles to Noah Lucier and Mark Herron Jr.
Easton Klein entered for the 'Cats in the second. He gave up a single to Jake Boone, who stole second. Austin White moved Boone to third with a single. White got in a rundown to try and bring in a run, but it backfired, and Boone was tagged out on a 1-3-4-5-2-4 putout. White went to third on the play, but was backpicked one batter later by Chris Burgess.
Tri-City took advantage of these baserunning miscues in the bottom of the second. Burgess was plunked by Liam O'Sullivan, and Dylan Broderick mashed a two-run jack for his first professional homer to cut the deficit to 4-2.
New England extended its lead back to four runs in the third. Ramon Jimenez doubled, and John Cristino hit a two-run homer to put the Knockouts ahead, 6-2.
Jimenez struck again in the fifth with a solo shot. Two batters later, Lucier picked up a single. Herron Jr. walked, and DiSarcina brought in Lucier with a single to put New England on top, 8-2.
The ValleyCats responded in the sixth. Kyle Novak singled, and Ian Walters launched his second roundtripper in the last three days to make it an 8-4 game.
Tri-City chipped away in the seventh. Jaxon Hallmark singled, and came around on a double to Novak to cut the deficit to 8-5.
The ValleyCats kept the line moving in the ninth. Ryan Cash was hit by a pitch from Reeves Martin. Martin continued to argue that Cash swung on the pitch that beaned him, and was ejected from the game. Hallmark singled off Brad VanAsdlen, and Javeyan Williams walked. Alec Olund was plunked, which brought in Cash. Novak notched his third RBI with a single. Lamar Briggs came in as a pinch-hitter for Burgess, and was intentionally walked by Nic Daniels. Afterward, Broderick delivered a walk-off single to provide Tri-City with a 9-8 victory.
Felix received a no-decision. He threw an inning, yielding four runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out two.
