Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY - The Tri-City ValleyCats suffered a series finale loss to the State College Spikes by a score of 7-6. Daniel Castano (5-0) picked up the win for the Spikes, while Carlos Hiraldo (0-3) took the loss.

The scoring began in the first inning, with a Kyle Davis RBI triple putting the 'Cats up 1-0. The Spikes quickly responded in the second inning with an Imeldo Diaz two RBI single, but the 'Cats matched them in the bottom half of the inning on a Jacob Meyers RBI double to make it 2-2.

It began to fall apart in the third inning for the 'Cats, when Bryce Denton hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Spikes. Carlos Hiraldo ultimately loaded the bases before giving up a grand slam to Tyler Lancaster to make it 7-2.

The 'Cats attempted to crawl back in the game with two triples from Andy Pineda that each led to runs. Abraham Toro-Hernandez drove in the first with an RBI single, and JJ Matijevic drove in the other on an RBI groundout to make it 7-4. Abraham Toro added a deep drive to right field for a two run home run to make it 7-6, but fell short on the last at bat.

Despite the loss, the bullpen settled down nicely for the 'Cats. Diogenes Almengo went two and a third innings of hitless relief and struck out three batters. Juan Robles came in and went another three innings of scoreless relief.

Daniel Castano pitched an effective five and two thirds innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out six on 104 pitches. His bullpen was able to do an effective job maintaining the lead, with Steven Farinaro, Leland Tilly, and Spencer Traynor allowing three runs and preserved the lead.

The ValleyCats will head out on the road for a series against the Batavia Muckdogs, before returning home on Monday to face the Connecticut Tigers for the 2017 Team Poster Giveaway presented by TD Bank! Be sure to purchase your tickets at tcvalleycats.com/tickets.
