Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
AUGUSTA, NJ - Following taking one of the worst losses of the season, the Tri-City ValleyCats (22-23) found the win column in dominant fashion Wednesday evening, evening up a midweek series against the Sussex County Miners (30-16). The 'Cats cruised to a 12-4 win over their Northeast Division rivals at Skylands Stadium, recording a season-best 17 hits in the process.
Tri-City wasted no time in pulling ahead, taking a 7-1 lead after the first two innings of play. First baseman Brad Zunica launched his fourth home run of the season to bring in the first three runs of the game, while second baseman Luis Roman drove in his second run in a ValleyCats uniform with an RBI single. Third baseman Juan Silverio christened his return to the lineup with an RBI single to plate designated hitter Daniel Angulo, while coming home off an RBI double from Denis Phipps.
Angulo would double to score Roman and Carson Maxwell made it 9-1 after three innings with a sacrifice fly, with right-handed starter Turner Larkins striking out four batters and allowing just two earned runs in four and two-thirds innings. Right-hander Daniel Kreuzer (2-2) earned the win in one and two-thirds relief innings, allowing a run on no hits and striking out one.
Despite the home team getting on the board with a run in the second inning, two in the fifth, one in the seventh, and one in the ninth, the 'Cats offense had more firepower left for the latter part of the game, with Zunica completing a four RBI night with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, Nelson Molina following suit in the ninth, and Juan Silverio sending in Angulo on an RBI single to cap off a team-leading four-hit night at the plate.
The 'Cats have now won five of their last six, and will look to capture a series against the Miners for the first time this season in the midweek rubber match on Thursday, July 22 at 7:05 PM. Tri-City will kick off an unprecedented 10-game homestand over seven days with a single-admission doubleheader against Equipe Quebec at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Friday, July 23 at 4:30 PM.
