More Solid Pitching Secures Series Win for Miners over Florence

Marion, Ill. - For the second consecutive night the Southern Illinois Miners road solid pitching to a win over the first place Florence Y'alls.

After Zac Westcott was stellar on Tuesday night, Chase Cunningham was superb on Wednesday night for the Miners. Cunningham the starter, went five innings and did not allow a single run to cross the plate. The righty allowed just one hit and struck out five, earning himself the win. The win was Cunningham's 37th career win putting him a tie for third on the all-time Frontier League wins list.

For Florence Kevin Hahn started and allowed two runs over four innings of work.

Hahn was replaced in the fifth inning by Grant Hockin who made his season debut for Florence. The right hander and former Indians' farm hand went 1.1 innings, allowing five hits and four runs to come across.

Jared Cheek took over from there going 2.1 innings, the Miners tagged him for two runs in the eighth.

Southern Illinois did not look back and secured its second victory in a row over Florence.

On this night the Miners were led by Anthony Brocato, who drove in four runs on three hits in the victory.

The series finale will be tomorrow night at Rent One Park. For Florence, Casey Grimm will get the start taking on the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of The Week, Gunnar Kines. The first pitch will be at 8:05 ET.
