Frederick Keys News Release

All night the Keys found themselves trying to climb back in the game. In the end they nearly overcame a six run eighth inning deficit but fell short losing the series opener to Myrtle Beach 8-6 Monday Night.

The Pelicans jumped out to the early lead via the long ball with two-run home runs from 1B Freddie Freeman and RF Jason Heyward.

Trailing 4-0 the Keys began climbing back in the fifth inning with a solo home run from C Caleb Joseph. The drive was Joseph's first Carolina League home run.

Down two runs in the seventh inning a big inning befell Frederick. Myrtle Beach scored four times on just three hits to lead the Keys 8-2.

Still the Keys were not done as 3B Tyler Henson hit a towering solo home run to lead off the eighth inning. Henson had his best night as a Key, going 2-for-4 with the solo home run.

The Keys rallied to within 8-5 in the ninth inning and loaded the bases before the Pelicans staved off Frederick's rally once and for all when DH Chris Vinyard struck out to end the game.

LHP Brian Matusz will be atop the hill in game two of the series Tuesday Night at 7:05 p.m. The UPS Store Pre-Game Show will get started at 6:45 p.m.

Frederick returns home for Opening Night 2009 Friday, April 17th at 7:00 p.m. against the Salem Red SOx. Fireworks will follow the contest.
