Soo Greyhounds News Release
Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced the signing of a pair of 2022 draft prospects earlier today.
Forward Tate Vader and defenceman Spencer Evans have both agreed to a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package with the Hounds.
"We have suffered a number of unfortunate injuries recently, but one of the positives that comes from this situation is the ability to reward both Tate and Spencer with the opportunities to jump in with the Greyhounds. They continue to have strong seasons for both Listowel and Smiths Falls respectively" explained GM Raftis.
Vader, a native Gowanstown ON, was selected in the 5th Round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection from the Huron-Perth Lakers U16 AAA.
" Tate's a very competitive, highly-skilled centre that has great skating ability. As he continues to get comfortable at the junior level, it will be great to see the tenacity he can add to the lineup" said Raftis.
This season the 5.11, 181-lb forward has played in 42 games for the Listowel Cyclones where he registered 15 goals and 13 assists while he was also a participant in the 2022 GOJHL Future Stars game.
"I am really excited to have the opportunity to join a first-class organization. Growing up in Ontario, playing in the OHL is every kid's dream, and I am honoured to be able to achieve mine with the Greyhounds" commented Tate.
Evans, a native of Stittsville ON, was selected in the 6th Round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection from the Smith Falls Bears U18 AAA.
"Spencer has taken great strides in his game since returning to Smiths Falls. Spencer is a physical defender who uses his mobility to play both in transition as well as in his ability to be a threat in the rush. It will be great to see his game continue to grow at the junior level" commented Raftis.
This season the 6.00, 177-lb defenceman has played in 33 games for the Bears where he has recorded 8 goals and 25 assists.
"I'm extremely excited and honoured to have signed with such a great organization. It is truly a dream come true. I'd like to thank all my family, friends, coaches, teachers, trainers and everyone who has helped me throughout the journey. I can't wait to get started with the Greyhounds" said Spencer.
Both players will be in the line-up this evening when the Greyhounds face-off against the Spitfires in Windsor at 7 PM.
