D.C. United News Release
WASHINGTON, DC (September 8, 2009) - D.C. United announced today plans to continue the 2009 season of United Drives by collecting toiletries before the team's home matches against the Kansas City Wizards on Sept. 9, Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 12 and the San Jose Earthquakes on Sept. 27. All items collected at the games will benefit Thrive D.C.
Originally founded in 1979 as the Dinner Program for Homeless Women, Thrive D.C. works to prevent and end homelessness by providing vulnerable individuals with a comprehensive range of services to help stabilize their lives. Thrive D.C. provides the last available safety net for people facing economic crisis and housing instability while also providing the first step towards independence for people experiencing extended periods of homelessness.
Fans who donate an item will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, redeemable for any home match remaining on the 2009 regular season. The collection bin will be located outside RFK Stadium's Gate A, and is open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off. Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices, located on the fourth floor of Gate A. This season marks the seventh year of the United Drives campaign, which collects much-needed items to help with each beneficiary's mission.
Each month during the 2009 Major League Soccer season, D.C. United will collect items at every home game to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. area.
