Kansas City Wizards Face D.C. United Tonight at RFK Stadium

(September 9, 2009) - The Kansas City Wizards (6-10-6, 24 pts) face D.C. United (7-5-12, 33 pts) Wednesday at RFK Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CT on Metro Sports. The Wizards are in the middle of a three-game road trip to the East Coast that started with a 4-2 win over the New England Revolution last Saturday. The trip concludes this Saturday with a game against the New York Red Bulls at 6:30 p.m. CT on Metro Sports.

The Wizards and D.C. United tied 1-1 in their first meeting of the season May 6 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Current MLS Player of the Week Josh Wolff scored a second-half equalizer for Kansas City in the first game against D.C. United. Wolff scored two goals and helped create two others in Saturday's win over New England to earn himself his 3rd MLS Player of the Week honor of the season. Wolff now has 70 career goals, good for a 15th place tie in League history with Cobi Jones. He ranks 9th in career goals among active players. His eight goals this season put him in a tie for 9th place in MLS.

Striker Claudio Lopez had one goal and one assist in the match Saturday. He now has six goals and five assists on the season, ranking 2nd in goals behind Wolf and tied for the team lead in assists with Jack Jewsbury. Tonight, the Wizards and Budweiser are hosting watch parties for Kansas City's game against D.C. United and the U.S. Men's National Team's World Cup Qualifier at Trinidad and Tobago. That match kicks off at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN Classic. Watch parties will be held at both Kansas City-area 810 Zone locations.

Soccer United Marketing (SUM), Saral, the Kansas City Wizards (Major League Soccer) and the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), announced August 26 that Mexico's most popular teams, Club América and Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V. (Chivas), will add a new chapter to their storied rivalry when the clubs meet for another edition of Mexico's "Clásico Nacional," or national derby, on Wednesday, September 16 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri at 8:30 p.m. CT. The game, which will celebrate Mexican Independence Day, will be presented by Bud Light.
