Undefeated Dallas Meets Undefeated Philadelphia in Broad Street Brawl on ESPN2 This Monday Night
April 22, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
Is there a better way to start the second half of the AFL's 2008 season?
For the first time in AFL history, two teams with records of 7-0 or better will meet when the Dallas Desperados (7-0) collide with the host Philadelphia Soul (8-0) in the "Broad Street Brawl" on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday, April 28 at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2 HD, ESPN360.com).
This game possesses more story lines than points in an average AFL game. To name a few, it features:
- The top scoring offense (Philadelphia, 66.0 ppg) vs. the top scoring defense (Dallas, 42.7 ppg).
- Two of the top quarterbacks in AFL history - Tony Graziani for Philadelphia vs. Clint Dolezel for Dallas.
- A 10-game regular-season win streak (Philadelphia) vs. a 15-game regular-season win streak (Dallas).
Something's gotta' give.
"It will be a real test for us and a benchmark on where we are as a team," said Desperados head coach WILL MCCLAY. "It's a great atmosphere to play a game in Philadelphia as Philadelphia hates Dallas and Dallas hates Philadelphia. With two great teams going head to head on the national stage, this is what you play and coach for!"
Dallas leads the all-time series against Philadelphia 5-3 and swept the Soul in 2007 for the second time in team history (2005). As the reigning two-time defending Mitsubishi Motors Eastern Division Champions (2006-07), Dallas has won 35 of its last 39 regular-season contests, including 15 consecutive. With a win, the Desperados can set the all-time record for most consecutive wins with 16.
Philadelphia brings a 10-game regular-season winning streak of its own to the table after defeating division rival Columbus (2-6), 76-55, last night at Nationwide Arena.
"These are two teams playing all phases of the game at a high level and with a lot of confidence," remarked Soul head coach BRET MUNSEY. "It should give us both a good picture at the midseason point of where we need to be."
Let the second half of the season begin.
