Unbelievable Rally Propels Sky Sox to 11-9 Victory

The Sky Sox rallied late, in a game that looked like they may very well lose, to beat the Las Vegas 51's 11-9 in front of 5,462 fans at Security Service Field Friday night.

Sky Sox starter, Alan Johnson, got roughed up a bit early as the 51's scored a run in the first by way of an RBI single coming from designated hitter Randy Ruiz. The Sox would counter, however, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second off 51's starter Brian Burres. Burres actually walked in two of the runs with the bases loaded, the other came off a Chris Frey RBI sacrifice fly giving the Sky Sox a 3-1 lead.

Johnson would go on to give up two more runs in the third inning to the 51's when Ruiz belted a two run shot to right tying the game up at 3-3. The 51's added one more run in the fourth and another in the sixth, both of the runs were RBI singles from center fielder Buck Coates, giving the 51's a 5-3 lead. Johnson's night was finished after the sixth as he gave up five runs on eleven hits striking out two. Johnson's relief didn't fare much better as Damian Moss gave up four runs in the top of the eighth, three of them coming off back-to-back home runs by Aaron Mathews, who had a two-run shot, and Angel Sanchez with a solo shot, giving the 51's a commanding 9-3 lead.

The Sky Sox came into the bottom of the eighth , seemingly out of it, not having scored a run since the second inning. All that changed, however, as the Sky Sox rallied to score an unbelievable eight runs in the inning. None of those runs were more important than the base clearing three-run double hit by Matt Miller which tied the game at 9-9. Miller would be followed Matt Murton, who put the Sox ahead with his RBI double to left field. Dan Ortmeier would add an insurance run singling in Murton on the next at-bat, extending the Sky Sox lead to 11-9.

Juan Rincon earned his second save of the season in the top of the ninth as he sat the 51's down in order striking out two to finish the game.

Tomorrow the Sox and 51's will play a double header to make up for a game that was postponed back on April 12th. Game one will have a 4:05 PM start and will feature right-hander Adam Eaton (0-0, 0.00) of the Sox versus lefty Brad Mills (1-7, 4.22) of Las Vegas. Game two will feature right hander Brandon Hynick (5-4, 4.04) of the Sox versus lefty Dave Romero (1-2, 6.05) of Las Vegas.
