Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Josh Banks allowed just three hits over 7 1/3 innings and the Portland Beavers beat the Fresno Grizzlies 3-1 before 6,103 Saturday night at PGE Park.

Banks (5-3) lowered his team-leading ERA to 2.47 by holding the Grizzlies (34-28) to a run and two walks while striking out three to earn his fourth straight win.

Mike Baxter and Jose Lobaton had two hits apiece for the Beavers, who have out-hit Fresno 20-6 over the last two games.

The Beavers (32-31) opened up the bottom of the first with three consecutive singles and took a 2-0 lead on sacrifice flies by Kyle Blanks and Drew Macias.

Fresno's Matt Kinney (4-6) struck out five and kept the Beavers to two runs on five hits and four walks but suffered the loss for the Grizzlies.

Nestor Rojas and Juan Ciriaco led off the third with singles and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt by Kinney. Ben Copeland's RBI groundout then plated Rojas to cut Portland's lead to 2-1.

The Grizzlies put runners on second and third with one out in the eighth, but Arturo Lopez came on to strike out John Bowker and Scott Patterson coaxed an inning-ending fly from Jesus Guzman to preserve the Beavers' one-run lead following Banks' exit.

Following a pinch-hit RBI single by Brett Dowdy in the eighth, Eulogio De La Cruz came on in the ninth to get his third save.

The Beavers and Grizzlies round out their four-game set Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
