
Padres Recall Joe Thatcher

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today recalled Portland left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher and placed right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 9) with a tibialis posterior tendon strain. Additionally, right-handed pitcher John Hudgins was transferred to Portland from Class AA San Antonio.
Thatcher, 27, is 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA (2er, 15.0ip) and 17 strikeouts in 15 relief appearances with Portland this season. In eight games with San Diego, he has a 4.50 ERA (4er, 8.0ip) with nine strikeouts.
Hudgins, 27, was 1-3 with a 2.97 ERA (11er, 33.1ip), one save and 29 strikeouts in 27 relief appearances with San Antonio this season. The right-hander, who was limited to two appearances in 2008 after missing the entire 2007 season due to injury, made two starts for Portland in 2006, going 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA (2er, 6.2ip) and seven strikeouts.
With today's moves, the Beavers' active roster is at 23 players.
