Ugly Win for M-Braves

Pearl, MS - After a 1:48 rain delay, 2,992 fans watched the M-Braves improve to 2-0 after the all-star break as they defeated the Huntsville Stars, 5-4 in 11 innings. Jason Heyward led the way with a 4-6 performance. Heyward had two doubles, his first AA home run and two runs scored. It was the M-Braves first home run in 127 innings. After the Braves gave up the lead in the ninth, Heyward's popup to third base in the bottom of the 11th was misplayed allowing Brett Butts to score from second with the game-winning run.

The Braves didn't let the rain affect their bats as they came out swinging in the bottom of the first. Matt Young shot a single to left and Kody Kirkland followed with a triple to right. After two batters, the Braves were on top. A wild pitch plated Kirkland and the Braves lead was 2-0.

Jason Heyward ripped his second double of the game with two outs in the third. Freddie Freeman followed with a single to left the scored Heyward and gave the M-Braves a 3-0 lead.

Huntsville got on the board in the eighth when Shane Justis scored on Drew Anderson's sac-fly. Jason Heyward led off the eighth with his first AA home run. The towering shot gave the Braves a 4-1 lead.

With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Adam Stern hit a flyball to leftfield that was misplayed by Concepcion Rodriguez allowing three runs to score and the Stars to tie the game at four. Huntsville returned the favor in the 11th.

Brett Butts got a one-out single to get it going in the 11th. Matt Young then moved Butts into scoring position with an infield single. With two outs in the inning, Heyward popped up to third and Taylor Green couldn't make the catch. Butts scored easily from second to give the Braves the win.

Ryne Reynoso threw 6.2 scoreless innings for the M-Braves and left the game with a 3-0 lead. Jerome Gamble threw one pitch and retired one batter in the seventh. Bryan Dumesnil gave up three runs in an inning and Cory Gearrin gave up a run in two-thirds of an inning. Tommy Palica threw one-third scoreless and Brett Butts picked up the win with two scoreless innings.

Mike Jones gave up three runs on eight hits through seven innings and left the game trailing 3-0. Rob Wooten gave up a run in his inning on the hill. Robert Hinton threw two shutout innings and Casey Baron took the loss after giving up a run in two-thirds of an inning.

The Braves and Stars play game three of this five-game set Friday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05. The M-Braves will send righty Jeff Lyman to the hill against Huntsville's Sam Narron.

On Friday night, the M-Braves famous Friday Night Fireworks Extravaganza will take center stage after the game compliments of Jackson Communications, The Score and 16 WAPT-TV.
