Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - With a 3-0 lead in the third game of a five-game set at Trustmark Park, the M-Braves handed the Huntsville Stars a 4-3 win via the base on balls. The Braves walked nine batters including two to load the bases leading to one run and two more with the bases loaded that tied the score. 3,406 fans watched the M-Braves fall to the Stars Friday night.
Willie Cabrera extended his current hit streak to 12 games and his on-base streak to 34 games in the bottom of the second inning. Cabrera just missed his sixth homer of the year when he ripped a triple off the top of the centerfield wall. Eric Campbell then chopped a single up the middle to bring Cabrera home and give the Braves an early 1-0 lead. Campbell then scored on a single by Travis Jones and Jones scored on a single by Matt Young. After two, the Braves led 3-0.
Huntsville's comeback started in the fifth. Drew Anderson's sac-fly got the Stars on the board and they tied it on two bases loaded walks in the sixth. In the top of the seventh, Jonathan Lucroy belted his sixth homer of the season off the batter's eye in centerfield to give the visitors a 4-3 lead.
Lyman pitched well, but didn't factor into the decision. He gave up three runs in 5.1 innings. Tim Gustafson allowed a run in 1.2 innings and fell to 1-1 on the year. Tommy Palica tossed two scoreless frames.
Sam Narron gave up three runs in five innings and Mike McClendon tossed two scoreless innings for his fourth win of the season. Bobby Bramhall didn't allow a run in one-third of an inning and Juan Sandoval retired the other two-thirds in the eighth. Rob Wooten pitched a scoreless ninth to record his fourth save of the year.
Mississippi and Huntsville square off again Saturday night in game four of this five-game series at Trustmark Park. The Braves will send lefty Scott Diamond to the hill against the Stars Donovan Hand.
On Saturday night, the Braves will feature a second Shirt off our Back Night. On Tropical Beach Night at Trustmark Park, the M-Braves will wear Hawaiian style jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
