Huntsville Stars News Release
What's up for any fundraising events? 1. Beginning this home stand, in conjunction with Budweiser and Southland's Full Throttle Magazine, Stars fans will be able to support the Alabama State Troopers Association by purchasing a donation memorial chit for only $1. Your name will appear in print in our game day roster insert. During this fundraiser randomly selected fans will win Budweiser merchandise prize packs and at the end of this fundraiser one randomly selected fan will win a Stars season ticket package for 2010. Stop by the team store for more information. This fundraiser helps those families of troopers injured or killed in the line of duty.
2. Come out to the Huntsville Stars game and strike out childhood cancer on July 24th at 7:00 pm. The event will raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, the premier center for the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Tickets will be sold in advance for a discounted rate of $5 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit St. Jude. Donations will also be accepted at the game at a table on the concourse. For more information or to purchase a ticket, contact Jean at 256-541-2356. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization, through events all over the country. For more information, please visit www.stjude.org.
3. The Huntsville Stars are auctioning off the team's blue alternate mesh jerseys to benefit Credit Union's for Kids/The Children's Miracle Network. Here's the scoop: beginning Tuesday you'll be able to bid upon these jerseys. Opening bid is $100 and all bids must be in $5 increments. You can send your bid via email to starsinfo@huntsvillestars.com or take it to the counter in our new team store during any Stars game. Bidding will close on Friday, August 7th, at the top of the 7th inning. At that time all bids will be closed and winning bidders will be invited onto the field to receive their jersey from the player wearing it for that game. Winners must pay for their jersey after the auction closes on the 7th. For those that bid upon unassigned jerseys, your jerseys will be held until you arrange payment/shipping. There is a $10 S/H fee to all US addresses. Foreign addresses will require more postage/handling.
4. On Thursday, November 19th, we will host a fundraiser at the Holiday Inn downtown Huntsville. We've joined forces with area Kiwanis and Optimists Clubs and the Huntsville Parks and Rec Department to help raise funds for the Everybody Can Play playground that will be built in Brahan Spring Park. This park will be North Alabama's most state-of-the-art playground which will accommodate those children and adults with disabilities. At this time we are still working out the logistics for the event, but now is the time to lock in the date! This fundraiser will be a post-baseball season, sit-down dinner with a silent and live auction. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
If your organization is interested in a fundraising, we have different ideas for every budget and time constraint. You can call (256) 882-2562 and talk to any Stars staff member to get the ball rolling.
When does the new team store open? Will the team store have AC? Where will the team store be built? The new team store will be open for Tuesday night's game. The expansion to the team store essentially moved the front out 12 feet. The store is in the same location, it's just much bigger now. With the cooperation of the City of Huntsville, the following businesses (listed alphabetically) have donated time, manpower, equipment and supplies in the planning, design and construction for the expansion of the Joe Davis Stadium team store: ABC Cutting Contractors, Alabama Concrete Co. Inc., Alabama Drywall Supply, All Star Plumbers Inc., American Insulation, Associated Masonry Products Inc., Chapman Sisson Architects, City of Huntsville Inspection Dept., Construction Materials Ltd., Cornerstone Imports, Datatek, Durham Services, Feria Painting Inc., H.J. Electric Inc., Lowe's of Huntsville, McCracken Backhoe Service, Quality Glass, Pathways Metal Roofing Supply, PBS Services Inc., RDC Carpentry, Reeves Custom Homes Inc., Richards Lighting, S&W Roofing, Scottish Links, Vines Concrete Pumping Service, Wilson Lumber Company and Vega Masonry. The Huntsville Stars wish to thank these businesses and the City of Huntsville for this generous contribution to the stadium!
When is the bobblehead giveaway night? On Monday, August 10th, early arriving fans will receive a bobblehead sponsored by Pepsi and FOX 54. This year's bobblehead person is a closely guarded secret. No, it's not Jamie Hill, our Head Grounds Keeper. But when you see the detail on it, you're going to agree that this is one of the best yet! No, it's not Homer the Pole Cat or Larry or Allison, the guest Bat Babe and Bat Bum. It's not the PA guy or Don Mincher. If you want one, get here early. We can't hold 'em if you're running late, so make plans to be here when the gates open.
Is Dave Bush (Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher) going to stay on our roster for a while. I read that he was hurt. We don't know how long he'll be a member of the Huntsville Stars. Dave is working his way back to Milwaukee's roster and he's at his own pace. When we know more we'll send out another email, but for the time being he's a Huntsville Stars player.
What are the 39 Steps? That's the amount of steps the visiting Manager must take to get to the mound to pull the hook on his starting pitcher. It's also the number of steps to get me thru the 12-step program Caffeinator's Anonymous (I'm a three-time loser with the Diet Dew, hence the 39 steps, but it keeps me going). And if you're a Alfred Hitchcock enthusiast, it's a movie about a secret spy organization but to discuss the 39 Steps (in the movie) gets you killed. Google it for yourself. Where do these questions come from, anyways?
