Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX, Arizona - The U.S. Men's National Team will take on Mexico on April 19 in the inaugural Allstate Continental Clásico, a new annual event that will feature the USMNT hosting a top-tier opponent from North, Central or South America.

The match will be broadcast live on TBS, Telemundo and Universo and streamed on HBO Max and Peacock. Coverage begins at 10 p.m. ET, with kickoff set for 10:22 p.m. Fans can follow the USMNT on Twitter (@USMNT), Instagram (@USMNT), Facebook and the official U.S. Soccer App.

"We're incredibly excited to bring the Continental Clásico to our fans in partnership with Allstate," said U.S. Soccer Vice President of Partnership Marketing, Kelly Higgins. "The opportunity to build a platform that brings a world-class opponent to the United States each year will be another key step toward making soccer the preeminent sport in our country, and kicking off the event with one of the biggest rivalries in international soccer will no doubt present a unique opportunity for us to engage avid, casual, and multicultural soccer fans alike."

The first edition of the Allstate Continental Clásico will take place in Glendale, Ariz. and will showcase one of the most intense and exciting rivalries in international soccer. The USMNT is aiming for its fourth-straight victory against El Tri on American soil dating back to 2021.

"The Continental Clásico is another example of Allstate's commitment to growing soccer in the U.S.," said Dan Keats, Director of Consumer Marketing and Sponsorships at Allstate. "We are excited to build an annual marquee match-up with the national team that promises to excite and unite a diverse group of fans around this event."

The design and branding for the Allstate Continental Clásico was led by U.S. Soccer's Brand and Creative team. The insignia draws inspiration from traditional American sports logos, while the font is a nod to Hispanic culture. The red lines represent the USA and grey, the opponent.

The USMNT has recently earned well-deserved bragging rights against their neighbors with two thrilling victories in continental championship matches. The U.S. claimed the inaugural Concacaf Nations League title in June 2021 with a dramatic 3-2 win against Mexico, boosted by a game-winning penalty kick from Christian Pulisic in extra time before substitute goalkeeper Ethan Horvath denied a penalty from Mexico legend Andrés Guardado in the final moments of the match.

Just two months later, the USA repeated the feat in the Concacaf Gold Cup Final in Las Vegas, this time earning an exhilarating 1-0 victory on a goal from defender Miles Robinson in the 117th minute as the USMNT deployed a squad that was almost entirely different from its Nations League title run.

As attention turned to World Cup qualifying in the Octagonal, in November 2021, the USMNT recorded its third consecutive home victory against Mexico. A new chapter was written in the storied history of Dos a Cero triumphs for the United States over Mexico in home World Cup qualifiers, this time with goals from Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie. The result marked the first time the USMNT beat Mexico three times in a calendar year.

The storied rivalry will continue with its next chapter on April 19. The USMNT is 4-1-2 when playing in Arizona and 3-1-1 when playing in Glendale, where the team most recently earned a 3-0 win against Panama on Jan. 27, 2019.
