Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC has signed defenderTrevor Zwetslootto a one-year deal with a team option for 2024, the club announced this afternoon. The contract is pending USL and U.S. Soccer approval.

Zwetsloot, 23, is a 6-foot-2 defender/defensive midfielder who joins the Hounds after playing last season with New England Revolution II in MLS NEXT Pro, where he made 21 appearances for the MLS club's reserve side.

"Trevor is a competitive kid that shows up every day with his hard hat and is ready to learn. He is a solid passer in the midfield and more than capable in the tackle, and we believe he will be a good addition to our team for the 2023 USL Championship season," Riverhounds head coachBob Lilleysaid.

Prior to his time in New England, Zwetsloot spent 2021 with the Melbourne Knights in the Australian second division, making 16 appearances there. He also spent time in the academy of German club Werder Bremen from 2018-19, making one appearance with the club's reserve side and featuring more regularly with their U-19 team.

Zwetsloot played his youth soccer in his hometown of Auckland, New Zealand, and he has made seven youth international appearances for New Zealand at the U-19 and U-20 age levels.

The Hounds' newest signing will be eligible for selection beginning this weekend, when the team travels to face Memphis 901 FC in their second match of the season, Saturday, March 18, at 5 p.m. at AutoZone Park.
