Jackson Simba Named to USL Championship Team of the Week

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Loyal SC defender Jackson Simba was named to The USL Championship Team of the Week for his performance in the club's 1-0 win against Detroit City FC on March 11. The 19-year-old defender scored the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute of SD Loyal's season opener in front of a sold out crowd at Torero Stadium.

Jackson, who won 2 of 2 tackles and 4 of 6 aerial duels against Detroit, is in his second year with SD Loyal. He was a late season acquisition in 2022, worked his way into playing time and earned the starting job for the 2023 season opener. Jackson's game-winner against Detroit came via a one-timer when he buried a low, right-footed shot after a Kyle Adams pass deflected off a defender.

The Tanzanian international joined SD Loyal after playing with AFC Ann Arbor of USL League Two for the 2022 season.

Simba is the first SD Loyal player to be named to the USL Championship's Team of the Week in 2023. Players named to the Team of the Week in 2022 included Tumi Moshobane, Alejandro Guido, Grant Stoneman, Collin Martin and Koke Vegas.
