Tyrese Martin Sets Franchise Scoring Record in Skyhawks' Win

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - The College Park Skyhawks (15-13) defeated the Grand Rapids Gold (8-21), 132-126, in overtime in the first game of a two-game series at the Gateway Center Arena on Friday night.

Tyrese Martin, on assignment from the Hawks, scored a team-record 46 points (16-25 FG, 9-14 3FG) to lead the game, including a game-winning three-pointer to end the game in overtime. His nine made three-pointers also ties the team record. Two-way guard Trent Forrest tallied 27 points (12-14 FG), 10 rebounds and eight assists in 32 minutes. Brandon Williams (19 points and 11 rebounds) and Giorgi Bezhanishvili (14 points and 11 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles in the game.

After a tightly contested first quarter in which the Skyhawks outscored the Gold, 32-30, the Skyhawks embarked on an 18-0 run during the second quarter (11:22 to 6:48) to create a cushion between themselves and the Gold. Martin poured in 16 of his 24 first-half points in the quarter. Martin's 24 points is the most he has scored in any half in his career, besting the 22 scored in the first half at Capital City on Nov. 27, 2022.

The Gold roared back with a 45-26 third quarter to cut the lead to three at 95-92 going into the fourth quarter. player Jack White scored 11 points, while Trevon Duval tallied 10 points in the quarter.

The fourth quarter started with a 9-0 Gold run, but Martin poured in 17 points in the quarter to bring the Skyhawks back to even at 123-123 and send the game to overtime - the second overtime game for the Skyhawks this season (Nov. 12, 2022 at GBO).

In overtime, the Skyhawks outscored the Gold 9-3 to reach the target score of 130 first and win the game. Martin drilled his ninth three-pointer to seal the game in the corner.

"We are pushing for the playoffs, so any way that we can get a win, we will take it," said Skyhawks Head Coach Steve Gansey. "I give our guys credit for continuing to fight tonight."

The Gold were led by 31 points by Duval in 38 minutes. White also recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds.

The Skyhawks will conclude their two-game set with Grand Rapids on Saturday in College Park at 6:30 p.m. ET. They will then hit the road for three games to end the season: Raptors 905 on Tuesday, March 21 (7:30 p.m. ET), Windy City Bulls on Thursday, March 23 (8 p.m. ET), and Birmingham Squadron on Saturday, March 25 (8 p.m. ET).
