Two Warthogs Named to the Carolina League All-Star Team

Lucas Harrell and Chris Kelly to play in the June 27th All-Star Game in Salem, VA

Winston-Salem, NC - Warthogs starting pitcher Lucas Harrell and infielder Chris Kelly were recently named to the 2006 Carolina League All-Star team. The Carolina League All-Stars will host the game against the California League All-Stars on Tuesday, June 27th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium in Salem, VA.

Harrell, who recently turned 21, is 6-1 in 12 starts on the season and is second in the league with a 1.91 ERA. His six wins are tied for third in the Carolina League with fellow Warthogs starting pitcher Wes Whisler. Harrell is holding opponents to a .156 batting average while striking out 53 batters in 66 innings of work.

Chris Kelly, who was named the Carolina League player of the month for April, is hitting .270 with nine home runs and 39 RBI. His home run total is tied for second in the league and his RBI numbers are good for third. Kelly, who played college baseball at Pepperdine, is tied for third in the league with 24 extra-base hits.

The Carolina League All-Stars will take on the California League All-Stars in a game being played for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. The Carolina League leads the all-time series 4-3 with two games ending in a tie.
