Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

William Collazo pitched seven strong innings and Ray Navarrete and Jay Caligiuri both homered, but the Trenton Thunder were still able to beat the Binghamton Mets 4-2 at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. Trenton took two of three in the series as the B-Mets finished their homestand with a 3-3 mark.

Binghamton (30-39) took the lead in the first when Navarrete took a Philip Hughes offering over the leftfield fence for a 1-0 lead. However, Trenton tied the score off Collazo in the fourth when Bronson Sardinha singled, moved to third on Shelley Duncan's base hit and scored on Vince Faison's groundout to second. Faison put Trenton ahead 2-1 when he led off the seventh with a home run. Those would be the only runs given up by Collazo, who didn't walk anyone and struck out six.

After Caligiuri led off the bottom of the seventh with a longball to left, tying the game at two, Trenton (34-34) took the lead for good in the top of the ninth. Matt Lindstrom (1-2), struck out the inning's first two hitters before Omir Santos drew a walk and Kevin Howard followed with a triple to right, scoring Santos with the go-ahead run. After J.T. Stotts walked, the Thunder added an insurance run on Gabe Lopez's base hit to left, bringing home Howard.

Trenton's J. Brent Cox (3-2) tossed a 1-2-3 eighth for the win. Justin Pope worked around Caligiuri's one-out double in the ninth for his 12th save.

After an off-day Monday, the B-Mets hit the road for seven games, starting with a four-game series at Akron. Mike Pelfrey (2-1, 2.66) will start the series opener for Binghamton. Game time is 7:05 from Canal Park with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
