Two Players Join Volcanoes

KEIZER, Oregon - The San Francisco Giants transferred two additional players to Short Season A Salem-Keizer on Friday afternoon. Pitcher Stephen Woods and outfielder Woody Edwards were selected in the 2016 & 2015 MLB Drafts, respectively, and are being transferred from the AZL Giants.

Stephen Woods, a 6-0, 200-pound, right-handed pitcher was selected in the 8th round (245th overall) in the 2016 MLB Draft out of SUNY Albany. In his junior season at Albany, Woods posted an ERA of 5.43 while throwing 64.2 innings during 14 appearances (12 starts).

For the AZL Giants, Woods pitched 27 innings with and ERA of 2.27, posting a record of 0-2 in eight starts (10 appearances). Woods held opponents to a batting average of .236.

Woody Edwards, a 5-10, 155-pound outfielder was drafted in the 40th round (1206th overall) in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Gulf Coast Community College (FL).

For the AZL Giants, Edwards hit .294 in 68 at-bats with 20 hits and six RBI. Edwards adds a a strong defensive background to all three of the outfield spots. He posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with 22 put-outs, 1 assist and 1 double-play.

Salem-Keizer welcomes the additions after Bryan Reynolds (OF) and Nick Sabo (LHP) to were transferred to the Augusta GreenJackets.

The Volcanoes look to sweep the Hillsboro Hops on August 18 and then head to Tri-City to take on the Dust Devils in a five-game set August 20-24. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
