TWO MORE ASSIGNED TO DORADOS INAUGURAL CAMPAIGN

MANWELL TALBERT AND ANTHONY TERRELL ASSIGNED TO DORADOS

HIDALGO, TX: February 12, 2004 – As the Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 (af2) prepare for their tryout camp in Houston this weekend, Head Coach Gary Gussman has announced the af2 has assigned wide receiver / linebacker Manwell Talbert and wide receiver / defensive back Anthony Terrell to the Dorados 2004 roster.

"Manwell was highly recommended by some teams in the Arena Football League and brings good size, good hands, and is someone that runs routes well," said Coach Gussman. "Anthony was another product of Texas Tech that worked out for Offensive Coordinator Rodney Blackshear, and he is an all-around athlete that brings many aspects to this game and is not just a one-way player."

Talbert, a 6'2" 215-pound wide receiver/ linebacker comes to the Dorados for his first season in the af2. He turned pro in 2002, signing with the New York Jets. The Washington D.C. native played quarterback and receiver in high school (Cardozo H.S.) before beginning his college career at Monterey Peninsula Community College in 1998, which is ironically where Jets Head Coach Herman Edwards attended. He grabbed 85 receptions in his two seasons (1998,1999) for 1,670 receiving yards, earning him two All-Northern California Conference selections. The 24 year-old transferred to New Mexico State University, where he played in 22 games over two seasons. In 2000, he appeared in 11 games and finished the season ranked second on the squad in receptions (26), receiving yards (360), touchdown receptions (4) and receiving yards per game (32.7). He started all 11 games his senior year as well and finished second on the team in receiving yards (458) and third on the team in pass receptions with 26. He led the squad in receiving yards per game with an average of 17.6%.

Terrell, a 25 year-old native of Houston, Texas will also seek his first year of af2 experience with the Dorados. The 5'11" 195-pound wide receiver / defensive back, most recently played with the Texas Sharks of the North American Football League (NAFL). He is a product of Houston's Madison High School, where he was an All-Greater Houston, All-District (17-5A) and District Defensive Player of the Year in 1996. He received the accolades after a senior season in which he compiled 118 total tackles, 6 interceptions, 6 caused fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries, which also placed him amongst the state's top recruits in over seven state-wide publications. Texas Tech University landed the recruit and Terrell spent his entire college career with the Red Raiders. Began as a freshman in 1997 and appeared as a reserve defensive back and a member on special teams, gathering 23 tackles. Terrell redshirted during the 1998 season, and returned in 1999 calculating 20 tackles in seven games as a reserve defensive back and special teams member before suffering a season ending knee injury. In 2000, he had five tackles, primarily playing on special teams. He appeared in 11 games during his senior year (2001) and totaled 40 tackles. Terrell's career numbers at Texas Tech included 88 tackles (47 unassisted, 41 assisted) in 39 games.
