Laredo Law News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Law have been assigned defensive specialist Traco Rachel (Trey-co Ra-shell) by the af2 league office. Rachel becomes the second player assigned in Law franchise history. The Law plays a 16- game regular season that begins on April 3rd. The Law home opener is set for April 23rd at the Laredo Entertainment Center. "I heard about Traco thru his former head coach Eddie Vowel at Texas A&M Commerce," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "Eddie is someone I've known for years and he is now the fullback-linebacker coach with the Austin Wranglers of the Arena Football League. He said that Traco was a great kid who worked hard and could help the Law. I watched some film on him and was impressed with what I saw."
The Law signed wide receiver-defensive back Terrance Minor from UTEP on Tuesday. With the signing of Rachel the first two players in Law history played their college football in Texas.
"Obviously Texas has a great deal of talent," said Maynard. "Right now we are looking for players who can come in and help us win this year."
Rachel, a native of Carson, California, played one season of college football in Texas at Texas A&M Commerce. He was a 2nd Team All-Lone Star conference selection as a defensive back in 1997. During that season he intercepted four passes and returned one for a touchdown.
"I consider myself a physical player," said Rachel. "I am a throwback type. I play hard and leave it on the field and try to show my heart and be thankful for the chance to play. I am very passionate about what I do."
Rachel, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, spent his first three years at Fresno City College from 1994-96. The 28-year old also played parts of two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders during 2000-01 campaigns.
"This is an opportunity to continue doing what I love," said Rachel. "I cherish the chance even more now than back then."
