Alabama Steeldogs News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham Steeldogs have announced that they have been assigned three linemen with extensive team history. Former University of Alabama product David Daniel, former UAB Blazer James Lewis and ex Tennessee Tech star Jerry Turner all return to don the black and orange.

Daniel returns for his third season with the Steeldogs. In 20 career games, Daniel has posted 4.5 sacks and 32 tackles. During his time in Tuscaloosa, the 6-1, 285 pound lineman appeared in 21 games registering 46 tackles, five for loss and seven QB pressures. Daniel earned honorable mention All-America honors while attending East Central Community College in 1998-99.

James Lewis, the longest tenured Steeldog returns for a fifth season. The 6-4, 290 pound former West End High School prep star has appeared in 46 games with the Steeldogs making 68 tackles, 3.5 sacks, four passes defended and adding a blocked kick.

The return of Jerry Turner is welcome news in Steeldogs camp. After spending last season with the Arena Football League's Las Vegas Gladiators, Turner returns for his third season in Birmingham. He last played with the Steeldogs in 2002, registering 7.5 sacks and six tackles for loss in 10 games. Turner is second all-time in career sacks with 13 just 2.5 sacks behind William Mayes, now with the Las Vegas Gladiators.

"This is a big day for us," said Steeldogs Head Coach Bobby Humphrey. "With the addition of these three experienced guys our line has really solidified. This may be the strongest, fastest group we have had in my five years here."

Season tickets to the Steeldogs 2004 season are currently available with packages starting at just $64. The home opener is set for Saturday, April 10th versus the Memphis Xplorers. For more information, contact the Steeldogs Ticket Office at 205.458.8833.
