Two Homers Not Enough in Frisco Loss

Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, Texas - Josh Stowers and Steele Walker home runs could not propel the Frisco RoughRiders to victory in a 6-3 loss to the Amarillo Sod Poodles from Riders Field on Friday Night.

Amarillo (12-16) started the scoring in the first when Jake McCarthy hammered a solo home run into the Lazy River to make it 1-0 against Riders (17-10) starter Hans Crouse (0-1).

The Sod Poodles then sprung out in front 5-0 with a four-run fourth. Back-to-back bases-loaded walks from Geraldo Perdomo and Jose Herrera increased the score to 3-0 before McCarthy lined a two-run double to right to cap the inning.

The Riders volleyed back in the bottom of the fourth when Stowers crushed a solo homer and Walker added a two-run blast to draw Frisco within two runs.

In the fifth, Luis Basabe added an insurance run with a solo homer, putting the Sod Poodles up 6-3.

Ryan Weiss (2-1) took home the win for Amarillo, allowing three runs over his five innings, while Chester Pimentel earned his first save of the year.

The Riders continue their six-game series against the Sod Poodles with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Saturday, June 5th. The Riders have yet to announce a starter, but RHP Matt Tabor (0-0, -.--) makes his first start for Amarillo.
