San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Despite leading in the sixth inning, the Missions allowed six runs in the final third of the game on their way to a 6-3 loss against Springfield Friday night.
In the top of the first inning, Jose Azocar led off the game with a triple. The next batter, CJ Abrams, drove in Azocar with a ground out to give the Missions an early 1-0 lead.
The Missions held the lead until the fifth inning. Cardinals' prospect Nolan Gorman tied the game with an RBI single.
San Antonio bounced back to regain the lead in the sixth inning, doing something they had yet to do all season. Missions catcher Chandler Seagle launched his first home run of the season and third of his career. The next batter was Azocar who homered as well going back-to-back with Seagle. This was the first time San Antonio had done that this season.
The lead was short lived as the Cardinals added a run in the sixth inning with a solo home run from David Vinsky. Springfield added two more runs in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly followed by a solo home run from Nick Plummer. The Cardinals took a 4-3 lead.
Springfield added two insurance runs in the eighth inning with a fielder's choice, a throwing error, and an RBI single from Baker.
