Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (May 16, 2012) - Despite a season-high seven innings from starter Ryan Buch, the Dash fell 3-2 to Myrtle Beach Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.
Myrtle Beach (19-18) recorded all of its runs on two home runs. Odubel Herrera tied the game with a solo blast in the fifth, and Christian Villanueva put the Pelicans ahead on a two-run bomb in the sixth inning.
Winston-Salem (22-15) continued its trend this series of scoring first. Trayce Thompson ripped a two-out double in the fourth and then swiped third. A wild pitch from Wilmer Font scored Thompson to give the Dash a 1-0 lead.
The Dash added a run in the eighth on a Trayce Thompson RBI double that scored Daniel Wagner. Pelicans reliever Randy Henry walked Brady Shoemaker and Dan Black to load the bases, but Winston-Salem could not plate another run in the inning.
A final rally from Winston-Salem fell short in the ninth. Henry flirted with trouble by allowing Wagner and Carlos Sanchez to reach base. A wild pitch pushed the runners to third and second, but Henry stuck out Thompson to end the game.
Ryan Buch was saddled with the loss but pitched a season-high seven innings. He struck out five batters, including the first three of the game, and gave up six hits.
The Pelicans' pitching staff entered the game with the lowest collective ERA in the league. Myrtle Beach held a potent Winston-Salem offense to two runs on nine hits. The Dash stranded 10 runners and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
The Dash will look to split the four-game series tomorrow night when righty Matt Heidenreich (3-1, 4.50 ERA) gets the ball. Myrtle Beach counters with right-handed pitcher Cody Buckel (3-1, 1.37 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
Tickets to the 2012 California-Carolina League All-Star Game are now on sale. For tickets and more information on the Dash, visit wsdash.com or call (336) 714-2287.
