Frederick Keys News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Keys were swept in their double-header with the Potomac Nationals, losing 5-4 and 4-3 at Pfitzner Stadium.
The double-header sweep puts the Keys at 12-23 on the year.
The Keys were leading in both games of the double-header, but ultimately lost leads in the fourth and then seventh inning.
In the first game, the Keys took a 4-3 with them in the bottom of the fourth inning, but three straight singles to lead off the inning, instantly tied the score. A solo homerun from Ricky Hague the next inning gave Potomac the lead and they never looked back from there.
Then in game two, the Keys took their 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, only to see it evaporate with two outs. After relief pitcher Ryan Berry needed just one more out to get the win, leadoff batter Blake Kelso hit a double to get into scoring position. Then Francisco Soriano, hitting just .138 entering the night, hit a single to score the tying run. Soriano would again play the hero in the ninth, hitting home the game-winning run with a two-out double.
Matt Bywater (0-1, 7.20 ERA) is charged with the loss in game one and Kenny Moreland (2-2, 4.37 ERA) gets the hook for the loss in game two.
Game two saw the debut of Tyler Wilson, who pitched five innings and gave up no earned runs as he struck out five and walked just one.
The Keys are back in action Thursday night against Potomac to close out their four-game stretch at 7:05 PM. RHP Scott Copeland (1-3, 5.91 ERA) will start for the Keys and he'll face RHP Kyle Winters (1-5, 6.99 ERA).
