Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri - The Frisco RoughRiders allowed five home runs to the Springfield Cardinals in a 12-6 defeat on Friday night from Hammons Field. Trey Hair blasted a pair of home runs in the loss for his second multi-home run game of the season.
The RoughRiders (13-12, 49-45) wasted no time hopping on the board first when Jonathan Ornelas ripped a solo home run to lead the game off. It was his 10th long ball of the season.
The Cardinals (15-9, 46-47) vaulted themselves in front in the third against Riders starter Tim Brennan when Masyn Winn crushed a two-run shot and Jordan Walker followed with a solo homer of his own to go back-to-back and make it a 3-1 game.
After Mike Antico increased the Springfield lead to 4-1 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, Hair hit his first home run on the night - a two-run homer - to cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, Blaine Crim tied the game with a sacrifice fly for the Riders and Sandro Fabian gave Frisco a 5-4 lead with an RBI double, scoring Dustin Harris.
In the bottom of the frame, the Cardinals nabbed the advantage back as Walker crushed his second homer of the game, a two-run blast, to jump Springfield back out in front 6-5. They then added on with an Antico three-run homer in the seventh, an RBI single by Winn in the same inning and two more in the eighth when Hair came into pitch as a position player to increase the lead to 12-5.
In the top of the ninth, Hair hit his second home run of the night, his 17th of the season to tie Harris for the club-high mark.
On the hill, Justin Slaten (1-5) took the loss for Frisco after allowing five runs, three of which were earned, in his 1.2 innings. Michael Brettell (4-1) earned the victory for Springfield with 1.1 scoreless frames.
The Riders continue their six-game series against the Cardinals on Saturday, July 30th at 6:35 p.m. from Hammons Field. Frisco will send RHP Jack Leiter (2-8, 6.24) to the hill while Springfield will turn to RHP Edgar Escobar (7-5, 6.51).
Frisco returns home next to begin the month of August with a six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles, beginning on August 2nd. For tickets and more information about the Frisco RoughRiders, visit RidersBaseball.com or call 972.731.9200.
