Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
AMARILLO - Jordan Brewer belted a two-run home run to left field in the ninth inning Saturday night, sending the Hooks to a 7-5 win over the Sod Poodles before 6,286 fans at Hodgetown.
Brewer's first Double-A home run traveled 443 feet and slammed into the video board, turning a 5-4 affair into a three-run lead for Corpus Christi.
The insurance was needed as Amarillo struck for consecutive two-out doubles in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate. Derek West countered by striking out No. 2 hitter Tristin English on a 3-2 pitch for his fourth save in five attempts.
Justin Dirden and Will Wagner teamed to go 7-for-9 out of the three and four holes. Dirden, who turned in his second four-hit game of the year, scored three times including a two-out solo home run in the first. Wagner went deep in the third, hitting a two-run shot into the berm in right.
Corpus Christi added a fourth marker in the sixth behind doubles by Cesar Salazar and Edwin D**íaz**.
Brewer accounted for the club's final three runs as he netted a sac fly in the seventh.
Jose Bravo, aided by three double plays, spun five innings of one-run ball for the win.
Michael Horrell employed another double play to pitch a scoreless eighth, keeping the Hooks in front, 5-4.
Corpus Christi now takes aim at a series split with lefty Julio Robaina on the hill in the Sunday night series finale. First pitch 6:05.
