Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – In Saturday night's 45-42 victory over the Florida Firecats, two well-known Charleston Swamp Foxes reached milestones in their af2 careers. Michael Brown moved into first on the Foxes' all-time defenders list and Mike Chandler reached 1,000 receiving yards for his career.

Brown, who was named the Fox Hole Fan Club's player of the week on Tuesday, recorded seven total tackles Saturday night to take over first-place on the all-time leading defender list. He surpassed former Fox Kenyatta Spruill, who had held the record with 113 total tackles. Brown already holds the Swamp Foxes' all-time interceptions mark at 19 and currently stands with 114.5 career tackles.

Brown tied Spruill's old record on a tackle assist with Mike Chandler midway through the third quarter. He set a new mark at the 11:24 mark of the fourth quarter on a tackle assist with Leroy McFadden as the two combined to bring Brent Burnside down on a kickoff return.

Needing 47 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard receiving mark, WR/DB Mike Chandler hauled in four passes for the exact amount to reach the milestone Saturday night. For his career, Chandler has recorded 70 receptions for 1,000 yards in 27 total games.

The play that put him at the plateau is one that Chandler may actually want to forget. The Swamp Foxes took over first and ten at their own 20-yard line after a Brandon Kornblue field goal attempt sailed out of bounds. After surrendering a four-yard sack, Charleston quarterback John Turman connected on back-to-back passes with Chandler, the second of which tied the mark. However, after catching the ball at the Florida 11-yard line, Chandler was stripped by WR/LB Cainon Lamb.

The fumble gave the ball back to Florida. However, the Firecats ensuing drive was ended by Michael Brown's 19th career interception in the end zone.

The Swamp Foxes host the Cape Fear Wildcats this Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 pm at the North Charleston Coliseum. It is Military Appreciation Night with military personnel receiving upper bowl tickets for $6.00 with military ID.
