Gooch Earns af2 Player of the Week Honors

Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

In his second game back as OS for the Quad City Steamwheelers, Ira Gooch came close to doing what he did all of last season, break records. Last Saturday night against the Wichita Stealth, Gooch caught 11 of QB Tony Zimmerman's passes for 189 yards and four touchdowns and returned eight kickoffs for 208 yards, including a 57-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

All of this adding up to just three yards short of the af2 single game record of 400 all-purpose yards set by Marty Grahm. Grahm set this record with the San Diego Riptide on April 6, 2002, when the Riptide faced off against the Bakersfield Blitz.

Gooch's 397-yard performance however did not earn him Player of the Game honors, which went to Zimmerman for his 24-for-35, 325 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception performance. The league however did not overlook the performance and announced late Tuesday afternoon that he received Week 7's Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Gooch and the Steamwheelers will look to continue this performance this Friday night against the Green Bay Blizzard at The MARK of the Quad Cities, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at The MARK box office or by contacting TicketMaster at one of the following: www.ticketmaster.com or 563.326.1111.
