Tulsa's Win Streak Snapped in 5-2 Loss at Missouri

February 9, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - All good things must come to an end and the Tulsa Oilers five-game win streak was ended by the Missouri Mavericks on Friday night at the Independence Events Center. The Mavs built a 3-0 lead and held off the Oilers for a 5-2 win on home ice. The loss is Tulsa's first since a 5-0 setback at Missouri on January 26.

Colt King's goal at 4:17 of the first period gave the Mavericks and early advantage and they never looked back.

In the second period, tallies from Kellan Tochkin and Kenton Miller pushed the Mavs lead to three goals.

The Oilers were finally able to solve Mavericks goalie Mike Clemente when Jason Weeks tipped the puck home at 3:38 of the third. The goal, Weeks' first of the season, gave the Oilers life but the optimism was short-lived. Tochkin re-directed a Sebastien Thinel shot off the glove of Oilers goalie Dan Clarke and into the net to end the Oilers brief momentum and push the lead back to three goals. Sean Erickson blasted home a power play one-timer to cut the Mavs lead to 4-2 with 13 minutes to play, but Thinel answered just two minutes later to put the game away.

Clarke, making just his second start as an Oiler, made 34 saves on 39 shots. The rookie got the nod over Shane Madolora who had started 19 of the previous 20 contests.

The Oilers fell to 17-28-3 for the season and are now 3-5-0 against Missouri with one regular season meeting remaining. The defeat was the Oilers first in the month of February.

Tulsa returns to home ice on Sunday afternoon for a 4:05 p.m. face off against the Allen Americans.
