Tulsa Talons News Release

CHICAGO - By securing 430 of a possible 448 points, the defending ArenaCup Champion Tulsa Talons have maintained the No. 1 ranking in the Week 2 Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. Tulsa's total included 25 first-place votes. The Talons opened up defense of their league title with a convincing 69-13 home win on Saturday over Amarillo.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the defending American Conference Champions, slipped nine spots from No. 2 to No. 11 after a 48-41 Week 1 loss at Quad City. Spokane (1-0, 321 points, 2 first place votes) replaced the Pioneers at No. 2 this week on the strength of the team's road win on Sunday at Green Bay, 64-48. Central Valley (No. 3, 300 points) and Rio Grande Valley (No. 5, 281 points) jumped into the Top-5 this week after securing Week 1 wins. The No.4-ranked Florida Firecats, idle in Week 1, start their season on the road this Sunday at Texas. Other teams receiving first place votes this week included the Quad City Steamwheelers (1, No. 6 overall) and South Georgia Wildcats (1, No. 8 overall).

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 16 teams in the league by ranking them one through 16 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 16 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 16th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 16 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 16 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
