Tucson Sweeps DH in Edmonton, Again

Tucson swept a double-header from Edmonton 4-0 and 5-1 Sunday afternoon at TELUS Field, completing a stretch where the Sidewinders won four games in 24 hours. Tucson swept the Trappers 4-1 and 7-0 Saturday night. With the wins Tucson moved above .500 at 55-54. The Sidewinders allowed only two runs in the course of the four games against the league's second best offensive team.

In the opener, starters Chris Capuano and Seung Song battled through seven scoreless innings. The Sidewinders finally broke through with four runs in the top of the ninth.. Lyle Overbay delivered a two-run, two-out single off left-hander Jose Rodriquez. Overbay was caught between first and second and stayed in the rundown long enough for Tracy to score from third to push the lead to 3-0. Doug Devore followed with a run scoring single to give Tucson a 4-0 advantage.

Brian Bruney worked out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth to earn his second win of the season.

Tucson scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings of the nightcap to build a 4-1 lead for Brady Raggio.

Raggio earned the win in a spot start allowing just one run on two hits in five innings of work. Former U of A Wildcat Jake Thrower connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the third, cutting Tucson's lead to 2-1, ending a streak of 23 2/3 conseuctive scoreless innings in the series.

Luis Terrero led the charge with five hits and two runs scored in the twin bill. Billy Martin had two hits and one RBI in the nightcap to extend his hitting streak to ten games.

Tucson's record is 55-54. Tucson and Edmonton will the final game of the six-game, four-day series Monday afternoon (11:00 a.m. Tucson time) at TELUS Field. THE GAME WILL BE TAPE DELAYED ON AM 990 KTKT at 6:00 p.m. John Patterson (6-4 2.37) will start for the Sidewinders against the Trappers Sun Woo Kim (6-5 4.10).
